Hadar Lookout

Hadar Lookout

A new scenic lookout named in memory of Hadar Goldin, who was killed in Operation Protective Edge in the Gaza Strip in the summer of 2014. The lookout is in the remains of a building from the Roman period, when this hilltop was apparently a command post that controlled the intersection below. The north-south road parallel to the coast crossed the east-west road between the coastal city of Apollonia and Shechem (Nablus).

To the east is Mt. Eval and Mt. Gerizim, the Jewish community of Homesh, and Three Seas Lookout above the hills of Itamar. To the west you can see the entire coastal plain from Haifa University’s tower in the north to Ashdod in the south. This is a wonderful place to sit among the olive trees, and as Hadar used to say, “Please come in with a smile.

An audio explanation describes the view and the story of Hadar’s life.
