Ya’ar Rechan Nature Reserve
Ya’ar Rehan is one of the most important nature reserves in the vast Shomron region, which is sadly lacking forests.
This forest was declared a nature reserve during the British Mandate era, and on 9 April, 1991 an area measuring 2,673 dunam (267 hectares) was declared a nature reserve in Shomron.
The rocky ground that is difficult to farm and the distance from the neighboring villages made this area inconvenient for grazing sheep, such that the reserve has retained its natural state. The trees are therefore quite dense and hikers should stick to the marked paths.
The forest is in northern Shomron, near the communities of Rehan and Tal Menashe, and has two small seasonal pools, one of which is near the forest ranger’s house.

Nearby sites
To the north of the nature reserve is an archeological site covering 3 hectares, with the remains of a village from the Talmudic period (2nd to 6th centuries CE), and to the east is Shaked Forest, near the community of Shaked.
