Ma’ayan Iris Hashomron is a unique, man-made environmentally friendly spring and pool at the entrance to the Gidonim ridge and is one of the few springs of its kind in Israel. The water from the spring flows into a pool in which plants and fish filter the water in a natural, ecological process, consuming the waste in the water for their nourishment. After the water has been purified, it is recirculated to the spring.

The spring is in the center of the largest habitat of the rare Shomron iris – the flower that gives this site its name. In the spring the beautiful blossoms carpet the site, attracting tourists from Israel and all over the world.
